When adjusting the intonation on your guitar first loosen all the strings and relieve tension on the neck. The reason for this is you are about to tighten or loosen the truss rod. The truss rod either removes the bow in the neck or gives it a slight bow. Now when turning the the truss rod make sure to only do quarter turns at a time. Too much turn could bow the neck severely causing permanent damage.

When setting my amplifier for a live show I first test my sound with a clean sound. Now 90 % of the time you want to have your master up 95% of the way and your channel volume lower so you have less distortion. Begin to adjust your treble, mid and low according to how you like it. Now you can start to adjust the distortion channel of your amp with minor tweaking of your settings. These are just a few simple tips.
